Text Reverser - Reverse Text, Words, or Lines

Four modes, one sentence

The quickest way to understand the tool is to push one line through every mode. Take the sentence Hello big world.

Reverse all characters gives dlrow gib olleH. Every character, including spaces, is flipped end to end. Reverse word order gives world big Hello. The words keep their spelling but swap positions. Reverse letters of each word gives olleH gib dlrow. Word positions stay put, and each word is spelled backwards. Reverse line order does nothing to a single line, but on a list it moves the last line to the top and the first to the bottom.

Punctuation travels with its word. In word-order mode, Hello, world! becomes world! Hello, because the comma and the exclamation mark are part of the words they touch. Fix punctuation by hand afterwards if the result needs to read cleanly.

Why emoji do not break here

Most text reversers do the naive thing: split the string into code units or code points, reverse the array, join it back. That works for plain English and fails on anything built from more than one piece.

A waving hand with a medium skin tone is two code points: the hand and a skin-tone modifier. Reverse the code points and the modifier lands before the hand, so you get a stray color swatch next to a default yellow hand. Family emoji, flags, and letters written with combining accents fail the same way. A flag is two regional-indicator letters, so reversing them can turn one country's flag into another's.

This tool uses the browser's Intl.Segmenter to split text into graphemes, the units a reader sees as one character, before reversing. Hi followed by a waving hand with a skin tone comes out as the same intact emoji followed by iH. Accented letters stay attached to their accents too.

What people actually use it for

Puzzles and games. Escape rooms, scavenger hunts, and classroom worksheets use backwards text as a simple code. Reverse letters of each word is harder to spot than a full reversal, because the word spacing still looks normal.

Palindrome checks. Reverse all characters and compare. Racecar comes back as racecaR, identical apart from case. For phrases like A man, a plan, a canal: Panama, strip spaces and punctuation first, since the tool reverses exactly what you give it.

Lists and logs. Reverse line order flips a chronological log so the newest entry is on top, or turns a countdown into a count-up. It does not sort anything, it just flips the existing order, so use the alphabetizer if you need A-Z.

Testing. Developers paste reversed strings into forms and layouts to check that nothing assumes a particular word order or text length, and to see how right-to-left edge cases behave.

Mistakes to watch for

Choosing reverse all characters when you meant word order. Both look scrambled at a glance. If the words themselves are spelled backwards, you picked the character mode.

Expecting line breaks to move in word mode. Reverse word order works within each line and keeps the lines in place. To flip a paragraph's word order across lines, join it into one line first.

Pasting reversed text into a place that auto-corrects. Phones and word processors will try to fix dlrow into something real. Paste into a plain text field or turn autocorrect off.

How spaces and line breaks are treated

Reverse all characters flips everything, line breaks included. A two-line input comes back with the second line first and each line spelled backwards, because the newline is just another character in the string.

The word modes work line by line. Reverse word order and reverse letters of each word both keep every line break where it was, so a poem or a list keeps its shape. Reverse line order moves whole lines and leaves the text inside each line untouched. If the output looks wrong, check which of these you actually need before blaming the input.
