Pages out of order is a scanning problem, mostly

Almost every out-of-order PDF comes from paper. You scanned a stack and one sheet went in backwards. A single-sided scanner forced you to scan all the fronts, flip the stack, and scan all the backs, so the file goes front 1, front 2, front 3, then back 3, back 2, back 1. Or you merged several PDFs and the appendix landed before the summary. Reordering fixes all of these without rescanning anything.

This tool rearranges pages in your browser. The file isn't uploaded, which is a big deal for the documents people scan most: tax forms, medical paperwork, signed contracts and ID copies.

Three ways to reorder, pick whichever is fastest

Choose a PDF and every page appears as a row labeled with its original page number. For a few small moves, drag rows by the handle on the left. Dragging works with a mouse, a finger or a stylus. The up and down arrows move a page one spot at a time, and the position box on each row jumps a page straight to any spot: type 1 to send it to the front.

For bigger changes, type the whole order in the New page order box and press Apply order. It takes single pages and ranges separated by commas: 3, 1-2, 4- puts page 3 first, then 1 and 2, then everything from 4 to the end. Ranges can run backwards too, so 10-1 reverses a ten-page file. The box always shows the current order in this compact form, which makes it easy to double-check before you save.

Rows that moved get a teal border so you can see what changed. Press Save reordered PDF, then Download PDF.

Fix a front-and-back scan in one click

If your scanner only scans one side, the standard trick is to scan all the fronts, flip the whole stack over, and scan the backs. Flipping reverses the order, so a 6-page document comes out as F1, F2, F3, B3, B2, B1. Interleave scanned fronts and backs rebuilds the proper order, F1, B1, F2, B2, F3, B3, automatically. It needs an even page count. If a back side is blank, keep it in the scan for the interleave, then remove it afterwards with delete PDF pages.

Reverse all is the other common fix: some sheet-fed scanners output the last page first, and older fax machines do the same.

Duplicating or dropping pages

The typed order doesn't have to include every page exactly once. Leave a page number out and that page is dropped from the new file. Type a number twice and the page appears twice, useful for putting a signature page at the end of each section or repeating a cover sheet between chapters. The status line tells you when pages are missing or repeated, so it's never an accident.

What stays the same

Pages are copied exactly as they are, using pdf-lib. Text stays selectable and searchable, images keep full resolution, and each page keeps its size and orientation. The new PDF is built from scratch with pages in your order, so there's no leftover of the old sequence hiding inside.

Two things may not carry over: bookmarks (the outline in a viewer's sidebar) and fillable form fields. Bookmarks point at specific pages, so they'd be wrong after reordering anyway. If you have a filled form, flatten it or print it to PDF before rearranging pages.

Working without thumbnails

Rows show page numbers rather than previews. Previews need a separate PDF rendering library that would make this page several times heavier, and page numbers are enough for most jobs. The quick way to work: open the PDF in any viewer, jot down the order you want as page numbers ("1, 2, 7, 3, 4, 5, 6"), paste it into the order box, apply, save. Open the result to confirm.

Once the order is right, finish the job with the rest of the kit: rotate PDF for sideways pages, merge PDF to combine files, split PDF to break it into sections, and add page numbers last so they run in the new order.
